What is Frame.io?

Frame.io is a tool for managing media and assets during any creative production process. It is widely used by video production companies to send drafts for client review and has quickly become a standard tool in many video production workflows, including ours.

We’ve found there are lots of benefits to managing comments and feedback in Frame.io. It’s fast and easy to use, and allows you to review and give feedback on videos from more or less anywhere – whether you’re at your desk or just on your phone.

It also allows us to be much more precise when giving and receiving feedback. By using the timestamp feature, we know exactly which bit of the edit your request applies to, which makes the post-production smoother and more efficient for everyone.

How to leave comments in Frame.io

Leaving comments and feedback on draft videos in Frame.io is very straightforward.

Leave a general comment:

  1. If you can’t see a column for leaving comments on the right of your screen, click the button in the top-right corner. The tooltip will say ‘Show Asset Information’ when hovered over.

  2. Type your comment in the comment box at the bottom of the column. If you can see a timestamp (this will look like a set of numbers) before the text you have entered, click the small clock icon at the bottom of the comment box to remove it.

  3. Click the button in the bottom-right corner to add your comment. If you are not logged in, you’ll be prompted to add your name so that we know who the comment is from. You should then see your comment appear in the column above.

Leave a timestamped comment at a specific point in the video:

  2. If you can’t see a column for leaving comments on the right of your screen, follow step one in the ‘leave a general comment’ instructions.

  3. Type your comment in the comment box at the bottom of the column. You should see an automatic timestamp appear before the text you have entered. If you cannot see this, please click the small clock icon at the bottom of the comment box – the tooltip will say “Add timestamp” when hovered over.

  4. Click the button in the bottom-right corner to add your comment. If you are not logged in, you’ll be prompted to add your name so that we know who the comment is from. You should then see your comment appear in the column above.
