For American Express, small businesses are at the core of every neighbourhood. Their Shop Small programme is designed to support them by encouraging cardholders to spend their money locally with independent stores by giving them a reward on their statement when they do.

Their agency partner Eulogy needed a London-based video production company to bring the stories of these businesses to life. The brief called for a candid documentary style, pairing a location interview with a wide range of supporting footage of their business in action. As the businesses were also open to the public, we had to keep our equipment footprint light, using just a single light for the interviews and handheld camerawork throughout.

The result is an ongoing series of films that shine a warm spotlight on some of the many small businesses that American Express supports, the people who started them, and the many things that make them special.
