Our Story
Before I became a filmmaker, I spent almost a decade as a photojournalist. I covered major news stories for Getty Images, The Times, and Sunday Times — from Downing Street and the death of Queen Elizabeth II to the pandemic and migration on the beaches of northern France. My photographs appeared regularly in newspapers and magazines around the world.
Then a commercial client asked the question: “Can you do video?”
Today, Rob Pinney Studio is a full-service video production company in London built on the same visual instinct and editorial discipline I learned as a photojournalist: lead with the story, be uncompromising on craft, and never let a frame go to waste. To date, we’ve completed 300+ projects following that ethos including films for Mercedes-Benz, Amazon, American Express, Dove, and Mayor of London.
Our principles
Over the years, we’ve arrived at a set of principles that define the way we approach our work.
Craft applies to everything
The discipline of cinematography and storytelling doesn't switch off for smaller briefs. Whether we're making a global brand film or an internal corporate case study, the goal is always the same: work that is visually compelling and communicates with clarity.
Strategy before aesthetics
A beautiful film without strategic foundations is a ship without a sail. We work to understand the objective before we pick up a camera — and we hold both things accountable at the end.
Value, not price
We're not the cheapest option in London, and we don't try to be. What we offer is the highest possible standard of work for a given budget, delivered without agency markups or layers of account management between you and the people making your film.
Deliberately small
We've made a conscious decision to stay lean. That means when you commission us, you’ll be working directly with me from start to finish.
