Wainwright: Worth the Walk

Alfred Wainwright is best-known for his seven-volume Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells, which quickly became the standard guide to 214 of the Lake District’s fells. Less well-known is the fact that he also used to buy everyone that completed the 250-mile Pennine Way a beer at the end of their journey.

In keeping with the beer’s tagling ‘Worth the Walk’, we produced this series of micro-documentaries that puts the spotlight squarely on people doing amazing things in – and for – the Lake District. Across a three-day shoot on location, we filmed everything we needed to make nine social-first mini-docs, three additional social assets, and a bank of standalone graded clips for the agency’s in-house team to work with.

Wainwright Legend of the Lakes:

Trekking Tom Experiences

When he was little, Tom Smith used to marvel at the topographical map of the Lake District that hung on the wall at his nanna’s house, and he spent much of his childhood exploring the Lake District. Today, he’s a qualified mountain leader and has been walking, climbing, and scrambling up the Lakeland Fells for more than twenty years.

Whether it’s a gentle walk through Buttermere or climbing Hellvelyn via Striding Edge at night, through Trekking Tom Adventures, Tom’s mission is to help people of all ages and abilities discover and enjoy the wonders of the Lake District.

Wainwright Legend of the Lakes:

Save Windermere

When Matt Staniek broke his neck in a car accident, he used to go and sit where the two rivers that feed Lake Windermere meet. From the confines of his neck brace, he would watch the the wildlife both above and below the waterline. Then he noticed it starting to disappear. A zoologist by training, Matt wanted to understand why, and that was when he discovered that overflow sewage was being dumped into the rivers that feed Lake Windermere.

Today, Matt runs the Save Windermere campaign with the simple goal of stopping sewage from entering the lake and securing the long-term ecological health not only of Lake Windermere, but of all the lakes and rivers that make up the Lake District.
